Leander Development At A Glance

Leander, Texas construction and development continues at a rapid pace as residential growth, major mixed-use projects and expanding commercial corridors transform this Williamson County community. From restaurants and retailers to housing, healthcare, entertainment and major developments, Texas Construction Media is tracking what’s being planned and built across Leander.

We follow projects from the earliest stages — including permits, filings and site plans — through groundbreaking, construction and grand opening. When a new restaurant prepares a location, a retailer enters the market or another major development begins taking shape, we’re following the story.

Leander traces its beginnings to 1882, when the Austin and Northwestern Railroad established a line through the area. The community was named for railroad official Leander “Catfish” Brown and remained relatively small for generations before rapid growth across the Austin metropolitan region dramatically changed its trajectory.

Today, Leander sits along the US 183 and 183A corridors in western Williamson County, providing direct access toward Austin while connecting residents with Cedar Park and other rapidly growing communities throughout the region. Continued residential construction has brought thousands of new residents and increased demand for restaurants, retailers, healthcare, entertainment and employment opportunities closer to home.

One of the biggest projects shaping Leander’s next chapter is Northline, a roughly 116-acre mixed-use district being developed as a new downtown destination near the city’s MetroRail station. Plans bring together residential development, restaurants, retail, offices, civic uses, public spaces and other amenities designed to create a more walkable urban center.

Northline is already moving from long-range vision into active development as new retail tenants and major projects take shape. At the same time, growth along 183A, Hero Way and Ronald Reagan Boulevard continues adding commercial and residential investment across other parts of the city.
