What Is Summer Moon Coffee?
Summer Moon Coffee isn’t your typical coffee chain. The family-run Texas company traces its story back to 2002, when a winning bid on coffee equipment at a local auction eventually led to its first coffee shop. By 2005, the family had opened Summer Moon Coffee Bar on South First Street in Austin.
What really separates Summer Moon from other coffee shops is how it roasts its beans. Instead of relying on a conventional gas-fired roaster, Summer Moon roasts coffee over seasoned Texas oak in handmade brick roasters. The company says its roasting team uses sight, sound and smell to manage the process, with the beans still roasted in the Texas Hill Country.
And then there’s Moon Milk. The company’s signature sweet cream was developed as a complement to its espresso and became the centerpiece of drinks such as the Summer Moon Latte. Customers can adjust the sweetness too, with variations including the Half Moon, Quarter Moon and Whisper Moon.
Summer Moon has since grown well beyond its Austin roots, with more than 70 locations according to the company, including shops throughout Texas and in several other states.
What’s on the Menu at Summer Moon Coffee?
Coffee is the star of the show, with espresso drinks, cold brew and Summer Moon’s signature Moon Milk featured throughout the menu. One of the brand’s best-known drinks is the Summer Moon Latte, which combines oak-roasted espresso with Moon Milk. Customers can dial the sweetness up or down with drinks such as the Half Moon, Quarter Moon and Whisper Moon. Summer Moon locations also offer teas and other beverages, along with food options that can include pastries, breakfast tacos and grab-and-go items.
