Hope Animal Hospital is preparing for a major expansion along State Highway 288 in Angleton as the locally operated veterinary hospital continues to grow.
Plans call for a 6,916-square-foot addition to the existing Hope Animal Hospital at 41360 State Highway 288. The project carries an estimated construction cost of $1.4 million, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The filing describes the work as the build-out of a new addition for the existing veterinary hospital. Construction was scheduled to begin June 30, 2026, with completion targeted for March 31, 2027. Reese Design Services of Houston is listed as the design firm.
Growth has already created a need for more space
The expansion follows signs that Hope Animal Hospital has been dealing with growing pains for some time.
In 2025, the hospital approached the City of Angleton while seeking approval for a temporary overflow parking area next to its existing property. During an August Board of Adjustment meeting, city officials described the animal clinic as dealing with growth and a possible facility expansion.
The hospital’s representative told the board that Hope had been open for a little more than five years and was growing rapidly. On busy days, the existing parking lot could fill with employees and customers, sometimes forcing people to park in the grass.
The hospital also told the city that the additional parking was intended as a temporary solution while it worked toward expanding the facility. The Angleton Board of Adjustment ultimately approved the parking variance by a unanimous 4-0 vote.
Now, the newly registered $1.4 million construction project provides a clearer picture of just how substantial that planned expansion could be.
More room for a growing Angleton veterinary practice
Hope Animal Hospital currently provides a range of veterinary services for cats and dogs. Those services include preventive care, diagnostics and ultrasound, surgery, digital radiography and dental care.
The hospital’s veterinary team has grown as well. Dr. Rachel Becker is joined by Dr. Kathryn Juneau, an Angleton native who joined the practice in 2023, and Dr. Kahla Peltier, who joined in 2025.
However, Hope Animal Hospital’s connection to the community extends beyond its growing patient base.
The story behind the name “Hope”
Hope Animal Hospital actually takes its name from a rescue dog.
According to the hospital, Becker found an abandoned feral dog near her home that was in poor condition and needed extensive care. Over time, she gained the dog’s trust, welcomed him into her family and named him Hope.
The experience ultimately inspired the name of the veterinary hospital.
That connection to animal rescue continues today. Hope Animal Hospital says its team works with the Angleton Animal Services Adoption Center, including performing spay and neuter procedures and helping provide veterinary care for shelter animals.
What’s next for Hope Animal Hospital?
With nearly 7,000 additional square feet planned, Hope Animal Hospital appears ready to enter its next phase along Highway 288.
The expansion comes after the hospital publicly documented rapid growth, overflowing parking and plans to expand its facility. Now, a $1.4 million construction project is officially registered for the property.
If the current construction schedule holds, work on the addition is expected to continue into spring 2027.
