Encompass Health Conroe plans call for a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Grand Central Park, bringing a place for patients to rebuild strength and everyday skills to the community’s City Central district.
The planned hospital at 869 City Central Avenue would feature private patient rooms in a single-story building. For families navigating recovery after a serious illness or injury, inpatient rehabilitation focuses on a deeply personal goal: helping someone get back to daily life.
Encompass Health Conroe: a focus on recovery
That work can involve relearning how to walk, getting dressed independently or rebuilding communication skills. Physical, occupational and speech therapy each address different parts of that journey.
Encompass Health’s existing Woodlands hospital already serves the area from 18550 I-45 South in Conroe. Its rehabilitation programs include care for people recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and orthopedic conditions.
The existing hospital describes a care model that combines therapy with around-the-clock nursing. Patients work with therapists for at least three hours a day, five days a week, with treatment tailored to their needs. The broader care team includes physicians, dietitians, pharmacists and case managers.
The Encompass Health Conroe project would give the rehabilitation brand a newly constructed facility in Grand Central Park. Encompass has not confirmed whether the planned hospital will replace its existing location or operate alongside it.
A hospital planned for Grand Central Park
The address places the hospital within City Central, the commercial district along I-45 inside Grand Central Park. The district brings education, shopping, dining and hospitality together within the larger residential community.
Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine anchors its medical education presence. Meanwhile, Marcel Boulevard provides restaurant, retail and office space, and the Hyatt Regency Conroe adds a hotel and convention center.
The planned Encompass Health Conroe hospital would add a different role to that mix: a setting where patients stay while working through their recovery. Its presence would extend the district’s healthcare activity beyond medical education and into inpatient care.
Encompass Health Conroe construction timeline
The state registration describes approximately 52,500 square feet with space for 50 inpatients, all in private rooms. It lists an estimated construction cost of $16,673,312 and identifies Gresham Smith as the design firm.
Construction is scheduled to start December 14, 2026, with completion listed for November 22, 2027. A public opening date has not been announced.
For Grand Central Park, the project represents another step in City Central’s development as a destination for more than shopping and dining. For future patients, its purpose would be much more immediate: a place to work toward greater independence and the return home.
