Dutch Bros plans a new coffee stop on South Fry Road at Spring Green Boulevard in Katy. A state filing outlines a $750,000 freestanding shop with drive-thru and walk-up service, bringing another beverage option to the intersection.
The 986-square-foot building is scheduled for construction from February 24 to July 28, 2027. The scope also includes on-site improvements, according to the project’s state registration. July is the listed construction completion target; a grand-opening date has not been confirmed.
Dutch Bros on South Fry Road
The proposed shop follows a compact format built around quick beverage service. Customers would order through drive-thru and walk-up transaction areas, according to the filing. It does not describe an indoor dining room.
The intersection is the location to keep in mind. The official Katy store directory already lists a shop at 1709 Spring Green Boulevard, alongside locations on Morton Ranch Road and North Fry Road. This South Fry Road proposal carries its own project number, TX4203.
From a railroad-side cart to Dutch Bros
The company’s beginnings were considerably smaller than its name recognition today. Brothers Dane and Travis Boersma founded the business in Grants Pass, Oregon, in 1992, after working in their family’s dairy business.
According to the company’s account of its early days, they started with a pushcart near the railroad tracks, an espresso machine and 100 pounds of coffee beans. Free samples helped introduce customers to their new venture.
That origin gives the little drive-thru buildings a fitting backstory: the business started by handing coffee across a counter long before it became a familiar roadside stop.

The current drink menu stretches well beyond a morning coffee. It includes iced and hot coffee, blended Freeze drinks, Rebel energy drinks, lemonade, tea, chai, shakes and smoothies.
Dutch Bros also emphasizes customization, with flavor choices, milk options and its Soft Top topping. That gives a group making one stop room for very different orders: coffee for one person, a fruity drink for another and something blended for someone else.
