South Austin shoppers could soon have a new stop for cowboy boots, western wear and hats. Cavender’s SouthPark Meadows plans call for a large new store in approximately 33,676 square feet of existing retail space at one of the area’s biggest shopping destinations.
The proposed Cavender’s Boot City would occupy 9600 S. I-35 Frontage Road, Suite 14, in space identified as the former Party City location. It would bring a different kind of specialty shopping to a familiar South Austin address.

What Cavender’s SouthPark Meadows Would Bring
For a shopper looking for a pair of boots, the appeal of a store visit is practical: trying on different fits, comparing leather and seeing how a style feels before taking it home. Cavender’s pairs that footwear focus with western clothing and cowboy hats, making it a destination for both everyday wear and a special occasion.
The western-wear retailer already has other Austin-area stores. SouthPark Meadows would be a new location for the center, rather than a move or expansion within an existing Cavender’s storefront there.
At more than 33,000 square feet, the proposed space gives the project a substantial footprint. The plans describe adapting an existing shop for the brand’s merchandise and displays, rather than building a new freestanding store.
A Familiar Shopping Center With a New Retail Use
SouthPark Meadows is a major shopping destination along I-35, with more than one million square feet of retail space and more than 100 stores. Its mix of shopping and dining already draws people making both quick stops and longer trips.
That setting gives Cavender’s a place within an established shopping routine. A visit for boots or a hat could become part of a trip that also includes errands or a meal, rather than a separate drive to another part of the Austin area.
The former Party City space also makes this a story about a familiar retail building finding a new purpose. Plans call for selective demolition, new interior walls, updated floor and wall finishes, fixtures, and exterior signage and décor.
Cavender’s SouthPark Meadows Plans Extend Into 2027
The registered renovation scope carries an estimated $1.55 million construction value. Work is currently scheduled from October 2026 through February 2027. That is a construction window, not an announced opening date.
For South Austin, the project would add a sizable western-wear store to a center residents already know. Its significance is the new shopping option and the reuse of a former specialty-retail space, as Austin’s retail landscape continues to change.
