B&J Welding Supply is planning a major new facility in Abilene, with a 40,206-square-foot showroom and fill plant proposed for 649 Gateway Street.
A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing lists an estimated construction cost of $6 million. Work is scheduled to begin November 18, 2026, and finish December 1, 2028. Those are construction dates; an opening date has not been announced.
B&J Welding Supply is already growing in Abilene
The Gateway Street project comes only months after B&J Welding Supply opened its current Abilene branch at 1810 Pecan Street. The company announced that location in early 2026 as its newest branch serving the Big Country with industrial and specialty gases, propane, welding equipment and safety supplies.
The new facility brings showroom, warehouse and fill-plant functions together under one roof. Plans call for a single-story, fire-suppressed, pre-engineered metal building with a showroom, staff offices, breakroom, warehouse, fill plant, restrooms and other support spaces.
The available company announcements and project filing do not establish whether Gateway Street will replace the Pecan Street branch or operate alongside it.
From Lamesa roots to a nine-location West Texas network
B&J Welding Supply traces its roots to 1977, when Bob Jones founded the company in Lamesa. According to the company, his son Jason Jones took over after Bob Jones died in 1998. B&J later expanded to Snyder in 2004, Amarillo in 2008 and Lubbock in 2011, where it added an in-house cylinder fill facility.
Today, B&J lists nine locations across West Texas and distributes medical and industrial packaged gases, welding supplies and safety equipment. Its services also include propane, bulk gas systems, cylinder filling and tracking, equipment repair and calibration.
An active expansion push across Texas
The Abilene project arrives during a broader growth push for B&J. Dallas-based Cordatus Capital partnered with the company in 2024 with plans to expand into new markets and grow its product offerings while Jason Jones remained CEO, a board member and shareholder.
That growth accelerated in 2025 and 2026. B&J acquired San Angelo-based GM Welding Supply, opened an Odessa branch in late 2025 and added Abilene in early 2026. The company said in February that it planned to continue expanding across Texas and surrounding states through acquisitions and new locations.
City plat identifies the B&J Welding Supply site
A plat posted by the City of Abilene identifies B&J Welding Addition, Tract A-1, as a 5.37-acre property along Gateway Street and Loop 322. It names AGG Industrial Holdings LLC as the owner, matching the state project filing. That provides a second public record connecting B&J to the Gateway Street site.
For B&J, the new Gateway Street facility would add more than a sales counter. The planned warehouse and fill plant would give the Abilene operation space for the industrial gas and welding-supply work that has driven the company’s growth across West Texas.
What is planned for 649 Gateway Street
The state registration names AGG Industrial Holdings LLC as the owner and Cox/Dirks Architects, P.C. as the design firm. The project remains registered with the state, and the filing provides construction timing rather than a confirmed opening schedule.
