Midland is getting another chicken finger restaurant, and this one may look a little familiar.
Layne’s Chicken Fingers is planning its second Midland location at 902 Andrews Highway, where the company will renovate an existing drive-thru restaurant.
According to the project filing, the renovation will cover 2,307 square feet and carry an estimated construction cost of $400,000.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin September 14, 2026, with completion expected by December 21, 2026. The project has already reached Review Complete status.
Layne’s is taking over another former Wendy’s
The Andrews Highway property was previously home to a Wendy’s.
And if that sounds familiar, there’s a reason.
Layne’s first Midland restaurant also took over a former Wendy’s location on Rankin Highway. Now, the chicken finger chain appears to be following the same playbook for its second restaurant in the city.
This time, Layne’s will transform the former Wendy’s at 902 Andrews Highway into its newest Midland location.
From College Station to Midland
Layne’s Chicken Fingers got its start in College Station in 1994.
The Texas-born chain built its menu around a simple lineup of chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast and its signature Layne’s Sauce.
And for anyone keeping score in the ongoing chicken finger debate, Layne’s actually predates Raising Cane’s. Layne’s opened in 1994, while Raising Cane’s opened its first restaurant in Baton Rouge in 1996.
A second Layne’s for Midland
The Andrews Highway restaurant would give Layne’s two locations in Midland and another spot deeper inside the city.
An opening date has not been announced. However, if construction follows the current schedule, work on the restaurant is expected to wrap up before the end of 2026.
And for Midland residents who thought the city already had enough chicken places, the chicken wars apparently aren’t over yet.
