Bojangles is continuing its San Antonio-area expansion with a new restaurant planned at 6040 Bandera Road in Leon Valley — taking over the longtime site of a former Taco Cabana.
The project calls for a 4,177-square-foot fast-food restaurant with an estimated construction cost of $650,000. The state filing lists construction from August 3 through December 31, 2026.
Bojangles lands at a familiar Bandera Road restaurant site
The address has a long fast-food history. State records show Taco Cabana #116 operating at 6040 Bandera Road as far back as 2013, and recent reporting on the Bojangles project identifies the property as the former Taco Cabana location. That gives the project a more familiar landmark for Leon Valley residents than another anonymous new restaurant site.
The new Bojangles is being developed by Jingle Jangle LLC, the franchise group behind the chain’s growing San Antonio-area footprint. Local franchisee Terrence Thames and his business partner have been moving quickly across the region, with additional restaurants planned on Culebra Road and FM 78 in Converse.
A much bigger San Antonio-area expansion is underway
This Leon Valley restaurant is part of a much larger push. Thames has said his group expects to develop roughly 15 to 17 Bojangles restaurants across the San Antonio area over the coming years, with additional markets in the franchise territory including Laredo, Kerrville and New Braunfels.
Bojangles describes itself as a Carolina-born restaurant brand dating to 1977, built around Southern-style chicken, made-from-scratch biscuits, breakfast and sweet tea. The company specifically lists San Antonio among its current U.S. expansion markets.
The chain currently lists two operating San Antonio restaurants, while several more are moving through the development pipeline. That makes Leon Valley another piece of a regional buildout rather than an isolated opening.
What’s planned for Bandera Road
Although the state filing categorizes the work as new construction, the important local story is the transformation of the former Taco Cabana property into a new Bojangles. Plans call for a 4,177-square-foot restaurant at one of Leon Valley’s most heavily traveled commercial corridors.
If the current schedule holds, construction is expected to wrap by the end of 2026, putting another piece of Bojangles’ expanding San Antonio-area footprint along Bandera Road.
