Alamo, breakfast is about to get a little closer to home.
A brand-new IHOP is coming to Alamo, with plans calling for a freestanding restaurant at 315 E. Expressway 83.
And this isn’t a small remodel or a restaurant taking over an old space. Crews plan to build the entire restaurant from the ground up.
According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the new IHOP will span 4,330 square feet. The project carries an estimated construction cost of $900,000.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin October 20, 2026, with completion targeted for July 1, 2027.
So yes, Alamo. The pancakes are officially in the plans.
From California to Breakfast Tables Across America
IHOP’s story started in 1958 in Toluca Lake, California, when the first International House of Pancakes opened its doors.
As the name suggests, pancakes were the main attraction.
More than six decades later, that’s still a pretty big part of the equation.
However, IHOP has grown far beyond pancakes. The chain has become one of America’s most recognizable breakfast restaurants, with locations across the country and around the world.
Pancakes Are Only the Beginning
Walk into an IHOP today and there’s no shortage of ways to build breakfast.
The menu includes pancakes, omelettes, French toast, crepes and breakfast combinations, along with plenty of bacon, sausage, eggs and hash browns.
Not feeling breakfast?
IHOP also serves burgers, sandwiches and other lunch and dinner options. And because breakfast doesn’t believe in clocks, many of those morning favorites stick around throughout the day.
Still, let’s be serious.
It’s pretty difficult to see those stacks of pancakes covered in butter and syrup and pretend you’re there for a salad.
A New Breakfast Stop for Alamo
IHOP already has a presence throughout the Rio Grande Valley, including restaurants in nearby communities.
However, we aren’t finding an existing IHOP operating in Alamo itself, making this planned restaurant a new addition for the city.
The location also puts the restaurant directly along the busy Expressway 83 corridor, giving it easy access from Alamo and surrounding communities.
Interestingly, the property owner listed on the construction filing is the Alamo Economic Development Corporation. The organization works to encourage new business investment and economic development within the city.
Bottom Line
Alamo won’t have to look far for pancakes much longer.
A new 4,330-square-foot IHOP is officially moving forward along Expressway 83, bringing another familiar restaurant name to the city.
If the current construction schedule holds, work will begin this fall and continue into summer 2027.
