A major transformation of Alvin High School is moving forward, with new construction records detailing $53.8 million in renovations and additions to the longtime Alvin campus.
The project at 802 S. Johnson Street covers approximately 93,341 square feet. Plans include two major new buildings, an expanded cafeteria and improvements to visitor access.
Construction records list work beginning in July 2026. The project is currently scheduled for completion in December 2027.
What’s Planned at Alvin High School?
The largest piece of the project is a new 71,939-square-foot Career and Technical Education building.
The CTE building will include academic instructional areas and administrative offices. Alvin ISD previously identified programs such as advanced technology, manufacturing and engineering, robotics, floral design and health care as part of the planned CTE expansion.
Additionally, plans call for a new 19,597-square-foot entry building. The project will create new academic and administrative space while transforming the school’s main entrance.
Crews will also expand the existing cafeteria by approximately 1,805 square feet.
Outside the buildings, the project includes a new visitor parking area and an updated student drop-off area.
Part of a Larger $97.7 Million Campus Project
The $53.8 million construction filing represents a major portion of a much larger investment at Alvin High School.
Alvin ISD included approximately $97.7 million for Alvin High School renovations and upgrades in its voter-approved 2024 bond program.
The overall project aims to modernize the campus while increasing capacity by approximately 400 to 500 students.
Plans also call for replacing the existing Luke Kennedy Vocational Building with the new CTE facility. Meanwhile, the historic auditorium area will become part of the school’s future main entrance.
Construction Already Affecting the Campus
Construction activity has already changed how students, staff and visitors access Alvin High School.
Alvin ISD announced that major construction along the Johnson Street side of the campus began in May 2026. As a result, access from Johnson Street is expected to remain closed through at least late summer 2027.
During construction, the school temporarily relocated its front office to the Memorial Stadium and Auxiliary Gym area at 1305 W. Dumble Street.
The work will continue in phases as Alvin ISD carries out one of the largest upgrades to the campus in years.
According to the latest state construction filing, this portion of the Alvin High School project is scheduled for completion in December 2027.
