The former Conn’s HomePlus along FM 1960 is heading toward a very different kind of workout. Crunch Fitness Willowbrook plans call for transforming the large furniture and appliance store into a 50,616-square-foot gym at 7736 FM 1960 Road West in Houston.
Crunch has directly promoted the Houston Willowbrook expansion through its own presale and founding-membership information. That company confirmation gives the project a stronger foundation than an early construction filing alone.
For the surrounding area, the biggest change is what happens inside a familiar retail building: a space once devoted to sofas, mattresses and appliances would become a destination for regular workouts.

Crunch Fitness Willowbrook Gives Former Retail Space a New Use
The project centers on reusing the former Conn’s HomePlus building. Plans describe an interior remodel of existing space, giving a large commercial property a new purpose without starting with a ground-up gym building.
At more than 50,000 square feet, the proposed club would occupy a substantial footprint along FM 1960. The size is one reason this is a meaningful local redevelopment story: Crunch would put the former showroom back to work as a fitness center.
That change also shifts the reason people visit. A furniture and appliance store serves occasional major purchases; a gym draws members back for their weekly routines. The planned conversion would bring a different pattern of activity to the same address.
A Familiar Fitness Brand Expands Its Houston Reach
Crunch already operates elsewhere in the Houston market. The Crunch Fitness Willowbrook project would extend that presence with a new use for the former retail space.
The brand describes its approach as making exercise fun in a welcoming, “No Judgments” gym environment. Across the company, its fitness model includes strength and cardio equipment, group classes and training. The final Willowbrook offering should be checked against this Houston club’s own membership information, since facilities and services vary by location.

Crunch Fitness Willowbrook Remodel Is Scheduled Into 2027
The registered construction scope carries an estimated $1.2 million value. Work is currently scheduled from October 2026 through March 2027, covering the interior renovation for the fitness center.
That construction window is separate from a customer opening announcement. The March completion estimate should not be read as a confirmed date for the first workout, and founding-membership promotion does not by itself establish when the doors will open.
For residents watching the former Conn’s property, the plans offer a clear next chapter. A familiar FM 1960 retail space is set to trade its showroom role for a large new gym, adding another fitness option in Houston’s Willowbrook area.
