Harlingen is getting a massive new place to work out.

Crunch Fitness is preparing to open a new 50,000-square-foot gym at 706 Dixieland Road, bringing one of the brand’s newest fitness concepts to the Rio Grande Valley.

And this won’t be a small neighborhood gym.

Crunch describes the upcoming Harlingen location as a $5 million investment. The company plans to transform more than 50,000 square feet of existing space into a new fitness destination packed with strength equipment, cardio, group classes and recovery amenities.

Crunch’s Newest Gym Concept Is Coming to Harlingen

The Harlingen gym will feature Crunch’s newer 3.0 design.

The concept puts a heavy emphasis on strength and functional training. Members can expect Olympic lifting platforms, a functional training area and Crunch’s HIITZone for high-intensity workouts.

However, lifting weights is only part of the plan.

The new location will also feature cardio equipment, group fitness classes and personal training. Meanwhile, recovery options will include HydroMassage and tanning.

For parents trying to squeeze a workout into a busy day, Kids Crunch babysitting is also planned for the Harlingen location.

A Major New Fitness Investment

Crunch Fitness has grown far beyond the traditional rows-of-treadmills gym model.

The brand mixes serious training equipment with a more energetic atmosphere built around its “No Judgments” philosophy. That approach has helped Crunch expand across the country while offering several different membership levels.

The Harlingen location will be operated by Fitness Ventures, one of Crunch’s franchise operators with a growing portfolio of gyms across the United States.

Now, Harlingen is joining that expansion.

The new gym also adds another major fitness option for residents on the west side of the city and throughout the surrounding Rio Grande Valley.

Construction Moving Forward in Harlingen

Work on the project is already moving through the development process.

State construction records call for a $1.2 million interior renovation covering 50,435 square feet at the Dixieland Road property. The project has reached Review Complete status.

Construction is scheduled to run from September 2026 through February 2027.

Crunch, meanwhile, has announced plans to open the Harlingen gym in early 2027.

Once those doors open, Harlingen won’t simply be getting another place with a few treadmills and dumbbells.

It’ll be getting more than 50,000 square feet dedicated to finding new and creative ways to make you sore the next morning.
