A bold blue-and-gold V marks the entrance in the concept drawings for the new Venus High School. It is a familiar symbol of Bulldog pride attached to a much bigger change: a new campus intended to give students more room to learn as Venus ISD plans for its next generation.
The district is moving forward with Phase 1 near Highway 67 and County Road 620. The new construction filing lists 124,117 square feet and an estimated $63.8 million construction cost, with work scheduled from October 2026 through July 2028.
New Venus High School addresses a crowded campus
The need for space shows up clearly in the district’s fall 2024 demographic study. It counted 715 students at the existing high school against a listed capacity of 540. That put the campus at about 132 percent of capacity, or 175 students above the study’s benchmark.
A larger learning environment would change the daily experience for those students. Venus ISD identifies reducing overcrowding and eliminating portable classrooms among the new campus’s goals. It also plans to expand opportunities in career and technical education, fine arts and athletics.
The district’s project updates describe flexible learning spaces within a design that balances school tradition with modern educational needs. The published renderings show broad rooflines, large windows and a prominent entrance carrying the Venus High School name.
A first phase with room for the future
The new Venus High School is part of a longer campus plan. The committee’s original Phase 1 recommendation envisioned a senior high school for approximately 540 students in grades 10–12. Future phases, supported by future bonds, could build toward a campus serving 1,200 to 1,500 students.
That early recommendation included 24 classrooms encompassing science labs and career-education spaces, along with a cafeteria, media center, practice gym, weight room and varsity locker room. It also proposed using the existing high school for younger grades, with those grade assignments still to be determined.
Those details describe the original planning concept. The design has since progressed: the new registration lists a larger building than the approximately 95,000 square feet in that recommendation. Final capacity and grade assignments will depend on the district’s updated campus plans.
Planning beyond today’s enrollment
Venus ISD’s facilities planning began in 2022, with a community committee examining growth and existing schools. A bond committee returned to that work in 2024, bringing parents, staff and residents into discussions about how to make room for future students.
The fall 2024 study projected district enrollment rising from 2,271 students in 2024–25 to approximately 3,131 by 2034–35. Those are planning projections, rather than a count of students already enrolled. The same study recorded a modest enrollment decline in the preceding year.
For the district, the challenge combines an already crowded high school with the possibility of more students in the years ahead. Building in phases gives the new Venus High School a starting point while leaving space for later expansion.
New Venus High School construction timeline
Huckabee is designing the campus, and CORE Construction is the construction manager at risk. The district’s December bond update confirmed CORE’s selection at the November board meeting and its role in preconstruction planning, cost analysis and scheduling.
The state registration schedules construction from October 1, 2026, to July 1, 2028. That is a construction target; the district has not confirmed a first day of classes at the new campus in the materials reviewed.
For Venus families, the project promises a new setting for familiar milestones: choosing a career pathway, preparing for a performance, practicing with a team and walking into class alongside friends. The blue-and-gold entrance gives that next chapter a recognizable home.
