A massive technology investment is taking shape outside Haskell.
Two new data center buildings are moving forward at the Journey campus along Red Creek Road, representing a combined estimated construction cost of $800 million.
Together, the projects will add nearly half a million square feet of data center space to Haskell County.
But the name behind the development is considerably bigger than “Journey.”
The roughly 300-acre campus has been linked to Google through agreements with Haskell County, making the project part of the technology giant’s growing data center presence in Texas.
Two Massive Buildings Make Up the First Projects
The Journey development currently includes two major data center projects at 1362 Red Creek Road.
Journey 1A is the larger of the pair at 285,282 square feet. The building carries an estimated construction cost of $400 million.
Journey 2A adds another 210,420 square feet and carries the same $400 million estimated construction cost.
Combined, that’s 495,702 square feet of new data center space and $800 million in estimated construction.
And all of it is rising in Haskell County.
Why Haskell Is Suddenly on the Data Center Map
For decades, Haskell County’s economy has been closely tied to agriculture and the surrounding rural communities of West Texas.
Now, enormous computing facilities are joining that landscape.
Google has been expanding its data center footprint across Texas as demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to grow.
The Journey campus is one piece of that expansion.
Homebound Group LLC is listed as the owner of both Journey projects. The company has also appeared in environmental records for the property, while Haskell County agreements have connected the development to Google.
Those environmental filings provide another glimpse at just how different a data center is from a typical commercial development.
Plans for the Journey site include emergency generators, firewater pumps and diesel storage used to support the massive computing operation.
And Journey Isn’t the Only Data Center Project in Haskell County
The scale of what’s happening becomes even clearer when looking beyond Red Creek Road.
Another major data center campus known as Thelma is also under development elsewhere in Haskell County.
State records show multiple large data center buildings planned there as well, including projects carrying estimated construction costs in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
In other words, Haskell isn’t simply landing one giant technology project.
The county is becoming home to an entirely new cluster of data center development.
Construction Continues Into 2027
Construction on Journey 1A is listed as beginning in April 2026, with completion currently targeted for August 2027.
Journey 2A followed in June 2026 and is scheduled for completion in October 2027.
Both projects remain listed as registered with the state.
For a community surrounded by cotton fields and farmland, the transformation is significant.
Nearly 500,000 square feet of data centers. An estimated $800 million in construction. And one of the world’s largest technology companies connected to the development.
Haskell may be a small dot on the Texas map.
But what’s being built there is anything but small.
