A new Planet Fitness El Paso project would bring a $6.7 million gym buildout to 1144 N. Yarbrough Drive. Plans cover 33,518 square feet within an existing East El Paso commercial property, with construction estimated from December 2026 through March 2027.

For the fitness chain, the proposal would establish another local workout destination in a market it already serves. For the Yarbrough corridor, it points to a substantial fitness use within a familiar retail address.

Planet Fitness El Paso Plans a $6.7 Million Buildout

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation registration lists an estimated construction cost of $6,703,600. Filed October 15, the project remains in “Project Registered” status.

The state classifies the work as renovation or alteration and describes the scope as a “Planet Fitness remodel.” The proposal involves tenant improvements within an existing commercial building; the records do not establish an operating Planet Fitness at this address.

The 33,518-square-foot scope describes the proposed gym work, not the entire property. Likewise, the registered estimate does not necessarily represent every expense associated with opening the club.

A Familiar East El Paso Retail Address

A historical commercial listing for 1144 N. Yarbrough Drive describes a 135,520-square-foot retail property built in 1972. That listing provides building history rather than proof of current space availability.

The address has long been associated with Burlington. Separately, Burlington registered a 27,414-square-foot tenant improvement at nearby 10501 Gateway Boulevard West, Building 9. Neither filing establishes that Planet Fitness will occupy Burlington’s exact storefront, and the gym’s tenant suite remains unconfirmed.

The Fitness Concept Behind the Purple and Yellow

Planet Fitness began in Dover, New Hampshire, in 1992. According to its official company history, the business initially resembled other local gyms before shifting toward first-time and casual exercisers.

That shift shaped its low-cost, welcoming approach. The company built its “Judgement Free Zone” identity around helping people feel comfortable working out, regardless of their starting fitness level.

Today, the purple-and-yellow branding makes its clubs easy to recognize. The company has grown into one of the country’s largest fitness-center franchisors and operators while keeping affordability central to its pitch.

Its official virtual club tour highlights treadmills, ellipticals, strength machines and free weights. Those equipment categories give members options for cardio sessions, resistance training and everyday workout routines.

An existing Planet Fitness club illustrates the brand’s equipment and purple-and-yellow design. It does not show the proposed Yarbrough gym or confirm its layout and amenities.

Planet Fitness offers Classic and PF Black Card memberships. Classic centers on home-club access, while PF Black Card adds benefits such as access to other clubs and guest privileges. Additional services and amenities vary by location and membership terms.

These are established brand offerings, not a confirmed equipment or amenities list for Yarbrough Drive. No project-specific interior floor plan was available in the reviewed materials, so the proposed club’s final layout remains unknown.

Planet Fitness El Paso Builds on an Existing Presence

The official El Paso club directory already lists locations on North Zaragoza Road, Joe Battle Boulevard and Montana Avenue, among others. The proposed Yarbrough project would join an established local brand presence.

The new registration lists Joseph Bencomo III as owner at 5700 North Mesa Street. An earlier Pendale Road Planet Fitness registration identifies JB4 Properties LP with Joseph Bencomo at the same street address. That documents a recurring development connection, without establishing identical ownership across the city’s clubs.

Elsewhere in Texas, TCM has covered Planet Fitness plans for an existing tenant space in Fate. The Yarbrough proposal has its own larger registered scope and local property questions.

What Comes Next on Yarbrough Drive?

The Planet Fitness El Paso registration estimates construction from December 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027. Those dates describe the anticipated work period; they do not confirm a groundbreaking or public opening.

The reviewed sources do not establish a Yarbrough opening date or membership presale. The exact tenant configuration and club-specific features also remain unresolved.

What the filing does establish is a sizable planned investment in a fitness destination along North Yarbrough Drive. If completed, the project would put more than 33,000 square feet of existing commercial space to work as a gym.
