Rio Bank Jackson is headed for a new chapter in McAllen, with plans for a building that brings commercial offices, retail banking and drive-through service together at 720 East Jackson Avenue.
For customers who know the address, this is familiar ground. Rio Bank already lists its Jackson location there, and the bank’s own website says the drive-up temporarily closed for construction on April 1, 2026. The planned building would renew the bank’s presence at an established McAllen banking site.
A new chapter for Rio Bank Jackson
The proposed 19,000-square-foot facility combines space for office work with the services customers visit a bank to use. Its drive-through component also keeps vehicle access part of the plans for Jackson Avenue.
That mix gives the project a broader role than a stand-alone drive-up. Retail banking and commercial office space would share the new building, bringing customer-facing service and workplace functions together at the same address.
The Rio Bank Jackson Avenue location page confirms the temporary closure. Customers can use the bank’s official location directory to check other banking centers and current hours while the Jackson site is unavailable.
Rio Bank McAllen roots reach back to 1985

Rio Bank’s history starts in February 1985, when it opened with a focus on consumer deposits and loans. A second banking center followed in North McAllen in 1995. Over time, the bank placed greater emphasis on commercial banking alongside its consumer business.
Its official history traces growth through communities across the Rio Grande Valley. San Juan and Palmview gained banking centers in 2002, followed by Brownsville in 2005 and Weslaco in 2009. The acquisition of Elsa State Bank & Trust in 2018 extended that regional presence further.
For the Rio Bank Jackson story, those roots matter. This is a bank with decades of local history making another investment in the city where it is based.
Growing beyond the Valley
Rio Bank later took its community banking model beyond South Texas. In 2023, it opened its first full-service banking center outside the Valley in Alamo Heights, in the San Antonio area.
The bank’s 2025 acquisition announcement added another chapter. Lone Star Capital Bank began operating as Rio Bank on June 2, 2025, adding locations in San Antonio and several Hill Country communities. Rio Bank said the completed acquisition brought it to nearly $1.5 billion in assets at that time.
The Jackson Avenue project puts the focus back on McAllen. As the bank serves a wider stretch of Texas, the new building would update a location within its home market.
Rio Bank Jackson construction plans
The project carries an estimated $5.3 million construction cost, with BRW Architects listed as the design firm. The state registration includes new construction and site improvements for the commercial office and retail banking facility.
The listed construction schedule runs from September 21, 2026, through May 21, 2027. That completion target is separate from a public reopening date, which Rio Bank has not announced on its Jackson location page.
For Jackson Avenue customers, the next chapter centers on a familiar destination taking a new shape: banking service, drive-through access and office space at an address Rio Bank already calls home.
