Goodwill plans a new Lockhart store at 1326 S. Colorado Street, combining four existing retail suites into one 12,243-square-foot location. Goodwill Prepares for a New Lockhart Store
The construction filing is supported by recruiting activity. A merchandise-processor listing describes a new Lockhart store and says hires will train at the San Marcos location while preparations continue.
That listing offers another sign of the planned opening, although it does not establish an opening date or a total number of jobs. The renovation would bring the four suites together into a single store, with space for both shopping and behind-the-scenes operations.
Secondhand Shopping With a Community Purpose
For shoppers, Goodwill offers the appeal of browsing donated goods and finding something unexpected. Clothing, household items and other secondhand finds give customers a reason to return as the selection changes.
Established in 1958, Goodwill Central Texas connects its retail operations with education, training and employment services. The organization says revenue from donated goods supports its community work, while secondhand shopping helps keep usable items out of landfills.
Its programs include career coaching, job preparation and education for people facing barriers to employment. Those are organization-wide services; the filing does not identify an on-site career center or classroom at the proposed store.
Goodwill Has an Earlier Connection to Lockhart
The organization’s local history extends beyond this retail project. In a September 2019 account, Goodwill described its Excel Center at the Lockhart Women’s Correctional Facility, where students worked toward high school diplomas.
The article highlighted education as a way to help students prepare for life after release. That documented history gives the proposed store a local connection to Goodwill’s broader mission, without suggesting the new retail space will house the same program.
With four suites becoming one shopping destination, the project would add a substantial thrift-store presence on South Colorado Street. Goodwill’s filed schedule points toward construction completion in March 2027, with the first day of shopping still to be announced.
