Hillsboro’s former outlet mall is getting another reason for shoppers to pull off I-35—and this one comes with boots. Boot Barn plans a 12,000-square-foot store at The Point at Hillsboro, adding Western wear and workwear to the property’s next chapter.
A new state project filing lists 104 I-35 Highway North as the address and an estimated $350,000 interior renovation. The work includes walls, finishes, fixtures and paint, with a schedule of October 25, 2026, through April 15, 2027. An opening date has not been announced.
Boot Barn Adds Retail to The Point
Boot Barn’s arrival was already public before this filing. The City of Hillsboro’s redevelopment timeline records its announcement in May 2026 as the project’s first new retail business. The registration now provides a specific size, budget and schedule for the store’s interior work.
That matters at a property many residents remember as a shopping destination. During the city’s 2021 planning process, residents identified the outlet mall as both a major concern and an opportunity. Redevelopment became a city priority in 2022.
Glaser Retail and the city completed property purchases in 2023, followed by demolition planning and work in 2025. The city also documents Bath & Body Works reopening in a new space in November 2025 and Chili’s debuting in May 2026. Boot Barn adds another shopping use to that evolving mix.
California Roots, Western Wardrobes
For a retailer so closely associated with cowboy boots, Boot Barn has a starting point some shoppers might not expect: Huntington Beach, California. The company opened its first store there in 1978, a history it recalled in its own account of returning to the city.
The business grew around Western and work-related footwear, apparel and accessories for men, women and children. That puts a pair of work boots and an outfit for a night out within the same shopping trip.
What Shoppers Find at Boot Barn
The retailer’s official website features brands such as Ariat and Justin alongside its own lines, including Cody James, Shyanne and Idyllwind. Its assortment spans boots, clothing and accessories, giving shoppers more to browse than the name alone suggests.
Some customers will arrive with a specific replacement pair in mind. Others may discover that “just looking” gets harder when an entire wall of boots is involved. The Hillsboro store’s exact inventory is still to come, but the brand’s mix serves both practical needs and personal style.

An Interior Buildout, Not an Opening Countdown
August reporting by KWTX described Boot Barn as under construction. The newer filing specifically covers tenant improvements within an existing space. These may represent different phases, so the October date should not be read as the beginning of every part of the project.
Likewise, April 15 is the listed completion target for this work, not a grand-opening promise. For now, the new filing adds detail to a retailer already announced for The Point—and another chapter to Hillsboro’s effort to bring shopping back to a familiar site.
