The Smile Shoppe Orthodontic Specialists is preparing for a major expansion in Laredo, with plans for a new 8,028-square-foot location along East Del Mar Boulevard.
A new state filing identifies 2702 East Del Mar Blvd. as the site of a $1.5 million project for The Smile Shoppe. The filing describes an interior finish-out of the new space, with work scheduled from October 1, 2026, through March 1, 2027.
A bigger home for a Laredo-grown orthodontic practice
The Smile Shoppe is not a new arrival to the city. The orthodontic practice is led by husband-and-wife team Dr. Ryan Reyes and Dr. Alessandra Chacon, who opened their private practice in Reyes’s hometown of Laredo after completing their orthodontic training.
The practice currently operates at 3402 Del Mar Blvd., where it provides orthodontic care for children, teens and adults. Services include traditional and cosmetic braces, Invisalign clear aligners, early orthodontic treatment and digital imaging. The Smile Shoppe’s website emphasizes personalized care from its local doctors and team.
More than 8,000 square feet planned on East Del Mar
At 8,028 square feet, the planned space represents a substantial footprint for the practice. The project filing lists Fazio Architects of Austin as the design firm and identifies the work as privately funded.
The project also keeps The Smile Shoppe on the same East Del Mar corridor as its current office. The new address at 2702 East Del Mar sits roughly a mile west of the practice’s existing location, giving the locally founded orthodontic group room to grow without moving far from the area its patients already know.
Local roots extend beyond the practice
Reyes and Chacon also have ties to dental education in the community. According to the Texas Association of Orthodontists, both have served as clinical faculty for the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry’s pediatric dentistry residency program at the Laredo Health Department.
With a $1.5 million investment and more than 8,000 square feet planned, the project points to a sizable next chapter for a practice that was built in Laredo and is now preparing to expand its footprint in the city.
